Most people overpay for internet, phone and insurance simply because asking for a better price feels awkward. A script removes the awkwardness. AI can write you one that is polite, firm and specific to your situation — and rehearse the call with you first.

  1. 1

    Know your numbers

What you pay now, when the contract ends, and one or two offers from competitors.

  2. 2

    Decide what you want

A lower price, a faster plan for the same price, or the freedom to leave.

Why it is worth one phone call

Providers of broadband, mobile, insurance and energy often charge loyal customers more than new ones. Prices creep up at renewal, and the company relies on the fact that most people will not call. Those who do call, politely and with a competitor’s price in hand, are frequently offered a better deal, because keeping a customer costs the company less than finding a new one. It does not always work. But it costs twenty minutes, and the saving repeats every month for a year or more.

The reason people avoid the call is not laziness. It is discomfort: not knowing what to say, fear of being pushed into something worse, dislike of confrontation. A script removes most of that.

Before you call

  • Find your current price, what the plan includes and the date the contract ends.
  • Look up two or three competitors’ offers for something comparable, and note the price and the terms.
  • Decide what you want: a lower price, a better package at the same price, or to leave.
  • Decide your walk-away point, the price above which you will switch.
  • Have your account details ready, and a pen.
